Recent leaks indicated that Xiaomi is developing a direct competitor to Apple AirTag, and a report published in early December 2025 hinted at the approaching official announcement of the device.

Although the company has launched several new products over the past period, the anticipated tracking device, temporarily known as Xiaomi Tag, did not appear at the latest official launch event.

But recently, software clips inside the latest version of the HyperOS system revealed the first details about the device, along with its initial design features.

The leaker @kacskrz monitored this information within the code, as the drawings showed that the device will come with an oval-shaped design with a built-in loop to hang it on keys or bags.

Through the code base, indications emerged that there are two different versions of the device, one of which supports Ultra-Wideband technology and the other without it.

Despite this difference, it seems that the two versions will share the same general design, and will also rely on a CR2032 battery, which is the same used in other tracking devices such as the Samsung Galaxy SmartTag 2.

On the other hand, current data indicate that the Xiaomi Tag launch may be limited to the Chinese market initially, as exclusive references to models directed to China only have appeared. However, this does not rule out the possibility of launching the device globally at a later stage after the local launch.

As for the date of the official announcement, it is still not precisely determined. However, the appearance of the device inside the HyperOS code reinforces expectations of its imminent unveiling. It may be announced after the Redmi Turbo 5 series launch event.
