Tourism launches the History Keepers Initiative at the Grand Egyptian Museum to raise awareness of the behavior of visiting the museum
The launch of this initiative comes as a continuation of the code of conduct that was launched last December to organize visits to the Grand Egyptian Museum, and to establish a set of values and practices that enhance the quality of the museum experience.
Sherif Fathi, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, indicated that the initiative confirms that visiting the museum is a cultural and civilizational tourism experience that reflects the status of Egyptian heritage and its global importance, noting that the initiative reintroduces the concept of rules for visiting museums as a collective responsibility and cultural value rooted in the history of Egypt, and not just a set of rules and instructions.
He added that the Grand Egyptian Museum was designed to be a space that allows visitors to communicate meaningfully with Egypt’s ancient heritage, stressing that the History Keepers initiative reflects the museum management’s commitment to preserving the quality of this experience for all visitors, by enhancing the feeling of shared responsibility towards cultural sites.
Dr. Ahmed Ghoneim, CEO of the Grand Egyptian Museum Authority, explained that the initiative encourages the adoption of a set of simple and internationally recognized behaviors that contribute to protecting visitors and collections alike, including mutual respect between visitors and museum employees, adhering to safety guidelines, avoiding touching artifacts or display cabinets, not using flash while photographing, and refraining from bringing food and drinks into the exhibition halls.
He pointed out that the initiative takes its message from the concept of “Maat” in ancient Egyptian civilization, which embodies the values of balance, harmony and responsibility, to present these daily practices as a contemporary extension of values rooted in Egyptian heritage.
The CEO of the Museum Authority said that the promotion of this initiative will be carried out through a variety of channels, including media platforms, informative signs inside the museum, educational programs, and digital content, in cooperation with a number of partners and relevant institutions.
