Egypt has a unique strategic advantage in having two liquefaction stations
Abdel Ati explained, during television statements, that Egypt has a unique strategic advantage in having two liquefaction stations in Idku and Damietta, which makes it a regional center for collecting gas, liquefying it and then re-exporting it, indicating that Cypriot gas will begin flowing during the coming period to be liquefied and re-exported by the same mechanism, along with Israeli gas.
The minister stressed that Egypt diversifies energy sources and does not depend on one source, pointing to the state’s plan to raise the contribution of new and renewable energy to 42% by 2035, in addition to expanding solar energy, wind, hydrogen, and green ammonia.
He added that the ongoing research and excavation work in the Nile Delta and Western Desert; It resulted in new discoveries of gas and oil, which enhances the local component and reduces dependence on imports, confirming the availability of multiple alternatives, including gas receiving stations in Ain Sokhna, that guarantee security of supplies in all circumstances.
Abdel Aty concluded by stressing that Egypt is completely confident in what it is doing in this file, and that any allegations of an external party’s ability to influence Egyptian gas supplies are unrealistic, especially since part of the gas is liquefied and re-exported according to purely commercial considerations.
