Dr. Nazir Ayyad, the Mufti of the Republic, answered a question to which he received the text: A video clip of a dead person was circulated on social media, in which she mentioned her insistence on washing a dead person who could not be washed by other washers, justifying her action by the desire to monitor the signs of a bad end and spread them to the people so that this would be knowledge and a warning. She mentioned repulsive details about the time of washing that dead body. What is the Islamic ruling on making inspection and monitoring of the dead person’s defects a reason for washing? Does the intention of the sermon justify violating the cover of the dead person and revealing what is seen during washing?

The Mufti said on Dar’s official website FatwaThe basic principle regarding washing is that it is an act of worship based on sincerity and concealment, not spying and defamation. It is not permissible according to Islamic law to make searching for the faults of the dead and monitoring their bad signs a reason for washing.

He continued: The claim that the intention is to preach does not in any way justify violating the veil of the deceased, which is as sacred as the sanctity of the living, and revealing the private parts that are seen during washing, which is a type of forbidden backbiting and betrayal of the trust entrusted to the washer.

He stressed: What the aforementioned laundry has done is a behavior that is inconsistent with Islamic etiquette and the principles of jurisprudence in honoring human beings, living and dead, and publishing such clips must be stopped because they harm the family of the dead and intimidate the living, and are a clear violation of the provisions of Islamic Sharia.
