The artist, Ali Qassem, spoke about his participation in the movie Lion, starring the artist Mohamed Ramadan, which is scheduled to be shown next May 14, and which takes place in a different time period in the fourteenth century.

Ali Qassem explained, in a statement, that the film Asad provides a humane treatment of the issue of slavery, and introducing the character (Yakan) is a great challenge because it is a cruel character and carries many complexities and contradictions between the apparent cruelty and the internal motivations that shape his behavior and push him to desire control, as the character adds an important dramatic dimension to the course of the story, stressing that the work represents a different experience in his artistic career, especially because of his distinctive production and directorial vision, expressing his enthusiasm for showing the film to Arab and international audiences.

In the movie Asad, the artist Ali Qasim embodies the character of Yakan, a handsome and cruel slave trader, who aspires to control the slave market and marry Laila. He hides a secret that explains the reason for his cruelty to the slaves, so he seeks to destroy Asad and re-impose restrictions on everyone who dreams of freedom.

The events of the film “Lion” take place in Egypt in the nineteenth century, and it deals with the story of Asad, a slave with a rebellious spirit in his core. This historical drama focuses on Asad’s journey after a forbidden love between him and a free woman sparks a confrontation with his masters. But when Asad is robbed of the most precious thing he owns, his silent defiance turns into an angry revolution, in a heroic struggle in which no one is guaranteed survival. Asad’s battle will not only determine his fate, but the fate of slavery in the country forever.
