Earlier this week, Garmin released a surprise update for the Fenix 8 and Fenix 8 Pro, with System Software 20.29 stable version coming as the first official update in over a month.

However, this update did not reflect the amount of development that took place within the beta program, but rather represented a return to an earlier development phase with a focus on fixing a limited number of bugs that were absent in previous v20.xx versions.

In a new move, Garmin has now pushed another update that continues the development of the v21.xx series, although the disabling of the flight, diving and ECG features indicates the continuation of the beta testing phase before moving to the stable channel.

According to an official post on the forum, the company has fixed four additional bugs that were present in beta version 21.16 and earlier.

Among the most notable improvements is addressing an issue that caused navigation to automatically end when the GPS signal was lost. Garmin also explained that it has begun rolling out the 21.17 beta to approximately 50% of the Enduro 3, Fenix E, Fenix 8, and Tactix 8 watches registered in the beta program.

The change log in the new version includes the following:

  • Fix data fields disappearing in active navigation mode after restoring from a backup.
  • Addressed an issue where GPS loss could result in navigation ending.
  • Added a three-second wait on the backup confirmation page.
  • Improving the readability of the Portal watch interface when using the red color with Red Shift mode activated.
