The security services at the Ministry of Interior were able to arrest members of a gang whose criminal activity specializes in counterfeiting local currencies and promoting them on social media sites.
The fall of a money counterfeiting gang in Greater Cairo
Information and investigations from the General Administration for Combating Information Technology Crimes in the Communications and Information Technology Systems Sector, in coordination with Public Security, confirmed that elements of a gang consisting of 5 people, one of whom had criminal information, residing in the governorates of Cairo, Qalyubia, and Dakahlia, specialized in fabricating local currencies and promoting their sale to achieve financial gains, and promoting their criminal activity through social media sites.
Following the legalization of the procedures, they were caught in possession of counterfeit banknotes of different denominations, materials, and tools used to carry out their criminal activity.
In addition to 5 mobile phones, examining them revealed the presence of evidence confirming their criminal activity, and upon confronting them, they confessed to their criminal activity as referred to and to their possession of the seized currencies in preparation for selling them for financial gain, and legal measures were taken.
