The US Geological Survey announced in a statement on Sunday that an earthquake measuring 7.1 on the Richter scale occurred off the coast of Malaysia.
The authority stated that the epicenter of the earthquake occurred 55 kilometers northwest of the Malaysian region of Kota Belud.
She indicated that the earthquake occurred at a depth of 619.8 kilometers, and no human or material losses were recorded according to preliminary estimates.
The Malaysian authorities did not issue a tsunami warning following the earthquake.
