Poultry prices stabilized in local markets today, Wednesday, February 18, in parallel with the return of calm to the markets with the first day of Ramadan tomorrow, Thursday.

Prices have increased recently due to the demand for purchases coinciding with the advent of the holy month of Ramadan, which usually witnesses an increase in consumption rates by approximately 20%.

Below are the prices of poultry today, taking into account that prices change from one region to another with slight differences, due to the variation in transportation costs and merchants’ profit margins.

Poultry prices today

The price of a kilo of white poultry reached about 91 pounds from the farm, reaching the consumer at a price of approximately 101 pounds per kilo, with monthly consumption estimated at about 150 thousand tons of white poultry.

The price of local chicken was 120 pounds per kilo on the farm, while it reached 130 pounds for the consumer. Mother chicks recorded a price of 90 pounds on the farm and were sold for 95 pounds to the consumer.

A kilogram of Sasso chicken fetched about 95 pounds on the farm, and is sold to the consumer at a price of approximately 105 pounds.

Albania prices in the markets

Banana prices continued to remain relatively stable at high levels, with the price of a kilo of banya ranging between 200 to 220 pounds, depending on the region and the type of supply.

Dr. Abdul Aziz Al-Sayed, Head of the Poultry Division at the Chamber of Commerce, confirmed that poultry prices began to decline at the beginning of today and are expected to decrease in the coming days with the decline in demand for purchases in the first week of Ramadan.

He added that all citizens are interested in poultry prices, because poultry is the cheapest type of animal protein, in light of the high prices of red meat.

He explained that poultry provides about 75% of the protein that the family needs, revealing that the per capita share of poultry per year is 21.5 kilograms, in addition to 10 kilograms of eggs, and that the per capita share of protein in general is 41 kilograms per year.
