Xiaomi is preparing to launch its new flagship phone dedicated to photography, Xiaomi 17 Ultra, which is based on the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor and comes with a camera system developed in cooperation with Leica, which makes it clearly directed at photography enthusiasts. In this context, the company recently unveiled a special version of the phone with a clearer Leica identity.
In this special edition, Xiaomi introduces a new element compared to the regular version, as it adds what it calls the Master Zoom Ring. This element comes in the form of an actual circular ring that completely surrounds the rear camera unit, in a design inspired by traditional professional cameras.
The company showed this rotating ring in a new official video, in which it appeared that it provides a user experience very close to that of classic cameras.
Although Xiaomi has not officially confirmed its function yet, reliable leaker Digital Chat Station indicates that this ring is not just an aesthetic addition, but rather supports the function of actual zoom and zoom control.

The difference in this version is not limited to the zoom ring only, as Xiaomi adds a 3D Leica engraving next to the camera unit, giving the phone a more luxurious and distinctive visual character.
The company had previously revealed the 200-megapixel periscope telephoto camera in the Xiaomi 17 Ultra, and the published samples show the sensor’s ability to provide portraits and zoom shots rich in detail.
Xiaomi is expected to officially reveal more details before the upcoming launch in China, scheduled for December 25, 2025.
