Since the launch of WhatsApp Web in 2015, the browser version has lacked support for voice and video calls, but that is about to change. The WhatsApp Web beta program has begun rolling out the feature of making voice and video calls to users.

Currently, the feature is gradually available to beta subscribers, and only works with one-on-one calls between two people. In addition, calls allow for screen sharing while calling.

In contrast, group calls are expected to arrive at a later stage, with support for up to 32 participants per call. Reports also indicate that call links and call scheduling will also be rolled out gradually.

WhatsApp Web calls rely on end-to-end automatic end-to-end encryption using the Signal protocol, ensuring a high level of privacy and security for users.
