Sheikh Niang, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Senegal, received Ambassador Khaled Arif, Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to Senegal, where the meeting discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations and exchange visions on developments in the Sahel region and West Africa, in addition to discussing opportunities to expand economic and investment cooperation between the two brotherly countries.

Relations between Egypt and Senegal

The Egyptian ambassador expressed appreciation for the important role played by Senegal in supporting security and stability in West Africa, noting its keenness to continue close coordination with Dakar in the field of promoting regional peace and combating terrorism.

During the meeting, Arif added to the prospects for cooperation between the two countries in the fields of infrastructure, energy, agriculture and health, and the promising opportunities that have resulted from recent visits to deepen the partnership between the two sides, especially the Minister’s visit to Dakar last year accompanied by a large delegation of businessmen, and his chairmanship of the Business Forum, with the aspiration to continue coordinating positions within regional and international organizations in a way that achieves common interests.

For his part, the Senegalese Foreign Minister expressed his country’s appreciation for the pivotal role played by Egypt in promoting peace and security on the African continent, stressing the importance of continuing coordination between the two countries in facing common challenges.

The Senegalese Foreign Minister praised the increasing Egyptian trend towards investment in Senegal, the capabilities of Egyptian companies and their pioneering executive expertise in the fields of infrastructure, construction, energy and agriculture, expressing his country’s aspiration to receive more Egyptian companies and organize a Senegalese-Egyptian economic forum soon in Cairo.

The Senegalese minister also expressed his country’s deep appreciation for the Egyptian positions aimed at enhancing stability on the African continent and the Middle East region, appreciating Egypt’s symbolic initiative to gift Senegal a copy of the coffin and mummy of King Tutankhamun, as part of the celebration of the sixty-five years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Egypt and Senegal.
