The economic forum activities started Emirati-Kuwaitiin Dubai yesterday, Monday, in an event that reflects the strength and strength of bilateral relations between the United Arab Emirates and the State of Kuwait, and confirms the growing role of the Gulf economic partnership in supporting sustainable development paths and promoting regional integration.
Muhammad Al-Shaya: The Shein and Timo platforms contribute to weakening the trade sector
During his participation in the forum, Mohammed Abdul Aziz Al Shaya, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Mabanee Company, said that “trade may get sick but it will not die,” warning at the same time that the rapid expansion of the two Chinese e-commerce platforms “Shein” and “Temo” may lead to weakening the trade sector, or even threatening it, if it continues without fair controls governing their work.
Al-Shaya explained that these two platforms do not employ citizens, do not rent commercial shops, and do not bear municipal fees, despite making large profits that are transferred abroad, specifically to China, which puts local retailers facing unequal competition.
He pointed out that the retail sector is considered one of the difficult sectors, due to the huge investments it requires and high operating costs, compared to the facilities that e-commerce platforms enjoy, calling for the necessity of establishing fair and equitable regulatory frameworks and controls that ensure achieving a balance between traditional commerce and e-commerce, and maintain market stability.
