Dr. Manal Awad was announced as Minister Local development And the environment, opening the door for applications to participate in the fourth session of the National Initiative for Smart Green Projects, within the framework of the state’s efforts to enhance climate action at the local level and support the transition towards a green economy, under the patronage of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Republic, and with the follow-up of Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, Prime Minister.

Dr. Manal Awad stressed that the initiative represents a pioneering national model for supporting innovative solutions that achieve environmental sustainability and improve the quality of life in the governorates, pointing out that the launch of the fourth phase comes as a continuation of the successes achieved and an embodiment of the state’s commitment to continue supporting climate action and promoting sustainable development paths at the local level.

The Minister of Local Development and Environment indicated that the initiative targets various segments of society through six main categories, which are the category of large projects, the category of medium projects, the category of small local projects, the category of emerging companies, the category of women, climate change and sustainability, and the category of non-profit community initiatives and participations.

Awad added that the initiative has become an effective tool to support the green economy, by stimulating innovation and empowering youth, women, and the private sector, within the framework of the Ministry’s vision (2026-2030), which is based on smart environmental governance, digital transformation, sustainable management of resources, and stimulating the local green economy.

The Minister of Local Development and Environment called on the governorates and all concerned parties to submit their projects, and the focus will be on the quality and sustainability of the projects, enhancing community participation, and accelerating the implementation of projects to achieve a sustainable development and environmental impact, noting that the fourth phase will focus more on the quality of the projects, their feasibility of implementation, and maximizing their economic and social impact, which contributes to achieving the shift towards a green economy and building a more sustainable future for future generations.

Dr. Manal Awad directed the governorates to communicate and coordinate continuously with the Ministry’s relevant contact points to ensure effective coordination in following up and implementing projects, launching an extensive publicity campaign to introduce the initiative, publishing it on the official pages of the governorates, and coordinating with universities, the National Council for Women, all concerned parties and the private sector, to achieve broad media momentum, educate citizens and motivate them to participate and create new ideas, while providing support to everyone who has a project idea and does not know where to start, thus opening the way for various groups to contribute to this national trend.
