Over the past few days, I have witnessed… France Unprecedented traffic and air chaos as a result of the heavy snowstorms that struck the country and large parts of central Europe. The falling snow disrupted traffic and canceled many flights, trains and buses, causing a stifling congestion that extended for hundreds of kilometers, according to what was published in Marca.
Paris is plunged into record congestion and hundreds of flights have been cancelled
In the capital, Paris, the length of car queues on the morning of January 7, 2026 reached about 950 km, while the total length of queues in the capital region reached 1,600 km, which is a historical record for the city.
The French authorities announced that 32 departments in the country are on orange alert, with snowfall of up to 15 centimeters expected in the Ardennes region in the north of the country. The government took urgent measures to reduce the risks, including preventing trucks from driving on highways and limiting the speed of cars to 70 kilometers per hour due to frequent accidents resulting from ice and snow.
Airports were also greatly affected, as six secondary airports were closed, and the main Charles de Gaulle Airport expected to cancel 40% of flights, while about a hundred flights had already been canceled as of mid-morning, while forty flights were canceled at Paris Orly Airport.
Local authorities said that the situation is complex and that the expected wave of snow has been confirmed, warning citizens against unnecessary travel, and stressing the need to adhere to road safety measures.
This storm is considered one of the most influential traffic and weather chaos in France in recent years, and its effects on the daily lives of residents continue even with the expectation of a gradual improvement in weather conditions in the coming days.
