The Egyptian Gazette published in Issue No. 81, issued on April 12, 2026, the decision of Major General Mahmoud Tawfiq, Minister of Interior No. 462 of 2026, depriving a Palestinian woman of acquiring Egyptian citizenship as a dependent on her husband for security reasons.

The text of the decision came after reviewing the constitution and Law No. 26 of 1975 issued regarding Egyptian nationality; And Ministerial Resolution No. 1004 of 2018 issued delegating the Major General Assistant Minister of the Minister’s Office Affairs Sector to exercise the powers assigned to the Minister of the Interior under Law No. 26 of 1975 regarding Egyptian citizenship;
The first article stipulates that Sherihan Ahmed Hassanein Hammad, a Palestinian woman born in Palestine on August 18, 1985, is deprived of acquiring Egyptian nationality as her husband, in application of the text of Article Six/1 of Nationality Law No. 26 of 1975, for security reasons.
Article Two also stipulates that this decision shall be published in the Egyptian Gazette, edited 3/21/2026
