Modric voluntarily takes a polygraph test to clear himself of charges of taking banned substances
Modric was informed in December 2024 that he had failed the doping test he underwent in November of the same year, as the result of sample A was positive for the banned substance meldonium.
As the controversy continued, the player later submitted the B-sample, which also tested positive, and was suspended from participating in team activities completely.
The player is currently undergoing individual training to maintain his fitness, while his defense team hopes to reduce the punishment based on his repeated denials of any intentional consumption of the banned substance, in addition to his passing a lie detector test, which he took of his own free will.
Modric moved to Chelsea in January 2023 from Shakhtar Donetsk for 70 million euros, and since then he has played 73 matches with the Blues, during which he scored 10 goals and provided 11 assists, and his contract with the London club is still ongoing until 2031.
Chelsea fans are awaiting the final decision regarding the duration of the player’s suspension, amid a state of division between those who believe that he was the victim of an unintended error, and those who demand that strict regulations be applied without exception.
