Amr Moussa, former Secretary-General of the Arab League and former Minister of Foreign Affairs, said that what I witnessed Parliamentary elections The recent appeals and reruns in a number of constituencies puts a big question mark over the entire electoral process, indicating that Egypt is an ancient country and has the full ability to hold sound elections if the will and controls are in place.

Amr Moussa: What happened in the elections requires a comprehensive review

Amr Moussa said, during statements on the Al-Hekaya program, that Egypt has held elections since 1923, and had properly elected councils, stressing that “Egypt can, the people can, the state can, and the president can” fix any defect that occurred in the electoral process.

He pointed out that electoral fraud in the past always led to unstable parliaments with an unhealthy ending, and the Egyptian people paid the price for them. Therefore, the current stage represents a “golden opportunity” to reconsider the entire electoral process and not be satisfied with returning only some districts.

Moussa explained that the president’s talk about the necessity of repeating the elections in districts whose results were proven to be invalid reflects a real desire for correction, noting that repeating the elections must take place “while ensuring that mistakes are not repeated” whether in lists or in individual districts.

In response to a question about whether it is possible to cancel the elections completely and repeat them again constitutionally, Moussa said, “Everything is possible, but through proper methods and legal mechanisms,” pointing out that the courts and constitutional procedures are capable of resolving this matter.

He stressed that the goal is not to repeat the same experience with the same mistakes, but rather to open the door to reforming the entire electoral process, because the continuation of a “flawed” parliament will shake confidence in legislation, at a time when the state needs strong institutions facing what he described as “difficult years” for the region and the world.

At the conclusion of his speech, Amr Moussa stressed that the state, the people, and the National Elections Authority are all in “one boat,” and that repeating the elections, despite its cost, may be the only guarantee for building a stable and sound political future.
