Apple announced its first new device in 2026, the second generation AirTag, which comes nearly five years after the launch of the first version.

Although it maintains the same basic design, it offers a number of important improvements in performance and interior technologies.

In the new AirTag, Apple relied on the second-generation Ultra Wideband chip, which is the same chip used in the iPhone 17 series and the Apple Watch Ultra 3 and Series 11.

Thanks to this upgrade, Precision Finding has improved significantly, being able to direct users to their lost items from up to 50% farther away.

In an additional step to enhance integration between devices, users of Apple Watch Series 9 or later, and Apple Watch Ultra 2 or later, can now benefit from the Precision Finding feature directly through their smart watches.

Apple also added an advanced Bluetooth chip that expands the scope of tracking items. In addition, the new generation has a 50% stronger speaker compared to the previous version, which makes it easier to find objects via voice alert.

Despite these improvements, Apple has maintained the same power system, as the new AirTag operates with a user-replaceable CR2032 battery.

In terms of price, prices have not seen any change, as a single AirTag is sold at $29, €35, or £29, while the four-piece package is offered at $99, €119, or £99. The second generation is available to order starting today, with the free custom engraving option continuing through the Apple Store.
