After a long wait, the new Google Groups update will finally become the default for all users. As the company itself announced, on September 15.

This redesign took some time to fully implement. A new interface for Google Groups debuted in March. Then in August, the new interface started rolling out to users, and that showed us all the new features and improved interface available. At that point, administrators had the option to turn off the new interface.

This option for administrators will now be removed and the new modern interface will become the default for all users. Google says it may take a couple of days for it to become fully visible. However, the new Google Groups interface is now imminent for everyone.

Google continues to phase out Classic Collections
The final launch phase of the new Google Groups update will mean that everyone will start seeing this new interface and users can decide to return Classic Groups by going to Settings > Return to Classic Groups if they so choose.

Google says that while Classic Collections will remain available after this point, they will eventually disappear. The company has plans to fully transition to the new collections.

Also, your administrator can no longer force you to use Classic Groups as an end user. However, as an individual, you currently still have the option to continue using the classic combinations but not for longer than necessary.

Google is also planning to add more features to the new Google Groups interface. However, these features will not be offered until the full migration of the new interfaces is completed.

What to expect from the new Google Groups

Google Groups has received a Material Design makeover that gives it an overall more modern, sleek look and has also made a number of UI improvements to make managing and finding Groups a little easier.

The new “Hamburger Menu” was one of the most exciting innovations of this redesign due to the number of people who liked it. Overall, while this is a solid overall update, it makes Collections more modern and stylish, and we should see some innovative new features coming to the platform soon.
