The South Sinai Endowments Directorate announced the extension of the period for receiving applications for the Ramadan Holy Quran Memorization Competition at its various levels for young people, in addition to the religious chanting competition, until next Sunday, instead of today, Thursday, in order to provide the opportunity for the largest number of contestants to participate.

The total value of the competition prizes is 200 thousand pounds, funded equally between the Ministry of Endowments and the South Sinai Governorate.

200 contestants so far
Sheikh Al-Sayyid Gheit, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Endowments in South Sinai, said in statements to “Cairo 24” that the number of applicants for the competition had reached 200 contestants in various branches as of yesterday evening, Wednesday, noting that the directorate began receiving applications since last Sunday, and the application window was scheduled to close today, Thursday, but it was decided to extend it until next Sunday to allow more participants the opportunity.
7 levels of competition
Gheit explained that the competition this year is intended for youth up to the age of 18 (with the exception of some levels), and is held at 7 levels, as follows:
First level: Memorizing the entire Holy Qur’an with familiarity with the provisions of Tajweed, provided that the applicant is not an imam, preacher at Al-Azhar, memorizer there, or member of a recitation group.
Second level: Memorizing three-quarters of the Qur’an with familiarity with the provisions of Tajweed, and the applicant must not be more than 16 years old.
Third level: Memorizing half of the Qur’an with knowledge of the meanings, vocabulary, and purposes of Surah Juz Amma, using the book Al-Bayan on the chosen one, and the age should not exceed 15 years.
Fourth level: Memorizing a quarter of the Qur’an with knowledge of the vocabulary and purposes of the surahs of Juz Amma, using the book Al-Bayan on the chosen one, and the age should not be more than 13 years.
Level 5: Designed for people of determination at all levels, and the age must not exceed 18 years.
Sixth level: The seven and ten readings, and the age must not exceed 30 years.
Seventh level: Religious chanting and supplications, and the age is open.
Test dates
The tests are scheduled to begin at the headquarters of the Directorate and its affiliated departments from Sunday, February 15, until Thursday, February 19, with the final qualifications for the first level (memorizing the entire Qur’an with the provisions of Tajweed) being held at the Directorate’s General Office on Wednesday and Thursday, February 25 and 26.
Required papers
A request addressed to the Director of the Endowments Directorate to apply for the competition.
A recent personal photo.
A copy of the national ID card or birth certificate.
The Undersecretary confirmed that the prizes will be presented to the winners during the Endowments Directorate’s celebration on Laylat al-Qadr, within the framework of supporting and encouraging memorizers of the Holy Qur’an among the people of the governorate.
