Apple’s new update fixes a problem with iOS 14 that causes user interfaces when setting default mail and browser applications, in addition to updating to 14.0.1 also addresses some other minor problems.
Should I update my phone to iOS 14.0.1?
The answer is yes
One of the cool new features of iOS 14 was resetting default mail and browser apps.
However, users who have tried this have discovered that after restarting their device, it will default back to the Mail or Safari app.
Today, Apple has taken care of this with the first updates for iPhone and iPad, bringing it to 14.0.1. Apple Watch will also be updated to 7.0.1.
Now, when you set your favorite browser’s defaults to Google Chrome, Firefox, or Microsoft Edge, or when your mail defaults to Gmail, Outlook, or Spark, they should stay that way, even after a reboot.
Other fixes in the release notes, according to 9to5Mac, include issues that could prevent camera previews from displaying on the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, prevent iPhones from connecting over Wi-Fi, could prevent photos from appearing in the News widget, and a host of fixes among other things.
If your phone hasn’t notified you of the update yet, you can find it by going to Settings > General > Software Update.
You can find lists of Apple’s security updates on its support website.
