The Loona DeskMate device is considered a new innovation in the world of affordable office robots, as it is distinguished by its design that does not rely on expensive processors, screens, or built-in speakers, but instead relies on magnetically connecting the Apple iPhone via MagSafe technology, turning the phone itself into the “brain” and “face” of the robot, and since the device charges the phone at the same time, it was designed to be a smart and practical alternative to traditional office chargers rather than just an additional tool that takes up space.
Once the phone is installed and the custom application is opened, the iPhone screen turns to display two large, expressive eyes, while a built-in motor moves the phone and directs it towards the user, giving the robot a charming and interactive personality. Loona DeskMate’s capabilities are not limited to that only, but it can access the phone’s cameras and microphones, in addition to interacting with the content of the screen of Mac or Windows devices located on the desk to provide an integrated personal assistant experience.

These features allow the device to provide comprehensive artificial intelligence functions for the system, such as summarizing texts, responding to emails, modifying calendar entries, or scheduling Zoom meetings. The manufacturer confirms that the device’s reliance on the high processing power of the iPhone helps reduce the latency between the user’s request and the artificial intelligence’s response. The front camera also provides additional context that allows the robot to respond to voice commands and gestures intelligently.
Regarding availability and price, a crowdfunding campaign for the Loona DeskMate is scheduled to be launched via the Kickstarter platform, so details of the official launch date and final price are still unknown, but users who take the initiative to register their email addresses on the manufacturer’s website can benefit from a discount of $ 100 when the product is released for support.
