AWOL is preparing to launch a new projector that will appear for the first time at huge discounts on the Kickstarter platform. The device is supposed to feature a high contrast ratio and very low latency.

We have previously mentioned the manufacturer “AWOL” several times, and our reports have not always been positive. At CES, the company presented new display devices that will be crowdfunded starting February 10 on Kickstarter. “AWOL” announces particularly large discounts during the first 24 hours, but the exact prices have not been announced yet. However, potential backers can get a discount of up to $2,500 by contributing $50, which should bring the price of the 4K projector down to $1,999. In any case, backers should pay close attention to shipping terms and consider the financial risks of crowdfunding campaigns in general.

Aside from that, the Kickstarter page already lists some of the most important technical specifications. The 4K laser projector is advertised as providing a brightness of 3,300 lumens (ISO). Furthermore, images of the product show that it is an Ultra Short Throw (UST) projector that can be placed very close to the display surface; From a distance of about 19 inches, it can produce a 100-inch image.

According to AWOL, input lag is extremely low at just 1 ms, and variable refresh rate (VRR) and automatic low latency mode (ALLM) are supported, which are important features for gamers. Additionally, the projector is equipped with an RGB laser setting and should produce vibrant colors. Work is also underway to support three-dimensional (3D) playback, but that will require 3D glasses.
