Google has revealed the name of a new feature it is working on for Android, which is a similar alternative to Apple’s NameDrop feature. The feature is called Tap to Share, and it allows content to be shared quickly by simply bringing two phones close together.
New widgets within the system show how the feature works, as it can be used to share contacts, photos, videos, links, geographic location, and more. To complete the sharing process, the two phones must be unlocked and placed close together with the screens facing upwards until a light signal appears confirming the start of the transfer.

If the process is not successful, Google recommends placing the two phones back to back, due to the difference in the location of the NFC chip between Android devices. The images also indicate a new interface for sharing contacts, along with improvements compared to previous leaks.
Google has not yet revealed the official launch date for the feature, but it is expected to arrive first on Pixel phones before expanding to the rest of Android devices, and it may come as part of the Android 17 update.
