WaveShare now offers a 7-inch circular touchscreen display with IPS panel, HDMI input, and 10-point capacitive touch support, targeting smart home systems, in-car infotainment systems, and other embedded interactive human interface devices.
Officially called the 7-inch LCD with 1080 x 1080 resolution, the new 7-inch touch display features a 1080 x 1080 IPS panel with wide 160-degree viewing angles and a peak brightness of 800 nits. Touch input is capacitive, with up to 10 simultaneous touch points. The 6H hardness tempered glass panel with optical bonding is said to improve overall durability, dust resistance and image clarity by reducing reflections.
The PCB on the back includes holders for the Raspberry Pi and also provides a standard HDMI input for video, as well as a dual USB-C interface for touch and power. Additionally, there’s a 3.5mm audio output jack, a four-pin speaker connector, two physical buttons for power and screen rotation, and software controls for screen brightness.
WaveShare states that the display supports driverless plug-and-play with devices such as Raspberry Pi, Jetson boards, Windows PCs, and laptops, but explicitly notes that Ubuntu, Kali, Windows 10 iOS, and the Jetson series only support 1-point touch, not 10-point touch.
Prospective buyers should consider how to integrate the display into their software ecosystem, since devices such as the Raspberry Pi series, other development boards, and Windows PCs natively output rectangular aspect ratios, which can lead to cut corners and scaling issues unless custom software is developed. In general, WaveShare provides software support on its wiki page, but for this particular product, the software is still under development. The unusual 1080 x 1080 circular format is mostly intended for custom UI projects rather than the standard desktop environment.
The WaveShare 7-inch Circular Monitor is available from the official WaveShare store for $159.99.
