During its plenary session today, Wednesday, headed by Counselor Hisham Badawy, Speaker of the Council, the House of Representatives began discussing the President of the Arab Republic of Egypt’s Decision No. 730 of 2025 regarding the approval of the financing agreement for the program to support the implementation of social and economic reforms at the local level “between the government of the Arab Republic of Egypt and the European Union,” funded by a grant worth 75 million euros.

Supporting the strategic partnership between Egypt and the European Union

Representative Tariq Shoukry, Chairman of the Economic Committee of the House of Representatives, reviewed the details of the agreement, explaining that the goal of the project in question is to support the strategic partnership between Egypt and the European Union through implementing integrated development interventions in slums and less fortunate areas, focusing on improving basic services such as education, health, and water, enhancing livelihoods, and developing the quality of health care, with special attention to vulnerable groups such as women, youth, and refugees, which contributes to strengthening social and economic resilience in the face of multiple challenges.

He added: The project contributes to promoting a decent and healthy life for all citizens in Egypt. It also aims to support the efforts of the Egyptian government in implementing comprehensive economic and social reforms, confronting the worsening challenges as a result of regional and international crises, and strengthening social protection by improving access to basic services, and also increasing economic opportunities, especially in slums and less fortunate areas.

He added: It aims to link social development with local economic services to ensure sustainability and achieve a tangible impact on the lives of target groups, and improve population access to basic and quality services in the targeted areas, with a focus on sustainability and citizen participation in the planning process, increasing livelihoods and economic opportunities in the targeted areas, especially for groups of women and youth, and improving the quality of health care in the targeted areas, with a focus on the needs of women and children.

He pointed out that the proposed agreement comes within the framework of developing and strengthening relations between the Arab Republic of Egypt and the European Union, and helps implement a positive agenda for shared prosperity and stability between them, by raising relations to the level of a strategic and comprehensive partnership and supporting the efforts of the Egyptian government in implementing comprehensive economic and social reforms, and confronting the worsening challenges as a result of regional and international crises, in line with Egypt’s strategy for sustainable development, Egypt Vision 2030.

He stressed that this agreement works to link social development with local economic services to ensure sustainability and achieve a tangible impact on the lives of target groups, by improving citizens’ access to basic services, increasing livelihoods and economic opportunities, especially for women and youth, in addition to improving the quality of health care, and focusing on the needs of women and children.
