In a development that may reshape the features of military conflicts around the world, it was announced Ukraine Carrying out an unprecedented field operation, during which it succeeded in controlling a Russian site using completely unmanned combat systems, without direct intervention from soldiers.

Will Ukraine change the form of wars?

According to what President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed, the operation relied on a combination of drones and ground robotic platforms, in a move he described as the true beginning of a new era in warfare, where technology plays the decisive role instead of the human element.

Zelensky pointed out that these technologies have become an essential element in his country’s defense strategy, along with missiles, interceptor aircraft, and reconnaissance systems, explaining that Ukrainian weapons have become a model of strength and efficiency on the battlefields.

This transformation is not just a tactical development, but rather represents a qualitative leap that may change the traditional rules of engagement, especially in light of the ability of these systems to carry out dangerous tasks, such as reconnaissance, attacking, and laying mines, while reducing human losses to a minimum.

Experts believe that what is happening in the war between Ukraine and Russia may be a prototype of what future conflicts will look like, as “smart wars” based on artificial intelligence and autonomous systems become the norm, not the exception.

On the other hand, this trend raises increasing concerns, as reducing risks to soldiers may make the decision to fight wars politically easier, opening the door to escalating conflicts using armies of robots instead of humans.
