Engineer Adel Al-Najjar, Governor of Giza, said, during a meeting with journalists, that the tuk-tuk has become a system that has been in place for years, and has a real presence in a number of areas where there are no transportation alternatives, stressing that despite the vehicle’s negatives, it has positives and is accepted by a large number of citizens.

The governor added that Giza has taken organized measures to deal with the situation of tuk-tuks, the most prominent of which is banning its use in the main streets and axes in order to preserve traffic flow and the safety of citizens, in addition to numbering all vehicles to confirm their identity and preventing any vehicle of unknown origin.

The governor pointed out that whoever violates the instructions is subject to imprisonment, and the violating tuk-tuk is confiscated without being released unless its owner submits an official request to join the replacement system, pointing out that the replacement car is available at a price of 200,000 pounds, according to specific controls that include submitting a valid national ID card, a fixed address, and that the applicant must at least be literate.

Giza Governor: Replacing a tuk-tuk is optional… and not releasing any confiscated vehicle unless its owner requests it to join the new replacement system.

Engineer Adel Al-Najjar, Governor of Giza, confirmed, during a meeting with journalists, that the initiative to replace tuk-tuks with alternative vehicles is not mandatory, stressing that the system has already been in place for years because it came to regulate the conditions of tuk-tuks that “opened homes” and have pros and cons, and also have customers who prefer them in some areas.

The governor explained that several decisive measures had been taken, including numbering tuk-tuk vehicles to limit them and preventing them from driving on the main streets. He stressed that the violator would be subject to imprisonment, and that any confiscated tuk-tuk would not be released unless its owner submitted an official request to join the replacement initiative.

The governor indicated that the replacement car is available at a price of 200,000 pounds, and an integrated unit has been established to deal with the system’s procedures. He explained that the replacement car may not be delivered without a clear national ID card, a known address, and the applicant must at least be literate.
