Abu Saddam: Decrease in tomato yield in Egypt due to leaf weevil

Hussein Abu Saddam indicated, during television statements, that the decline in tomato yields in the recent period was unnatural and caused huge losses to farmers, as a result of farmers increasing their cultivation of large quantities compared to demand, which contributed to the current crisis.

The head of the Farmers Syndicate noted that the coming period may witness a natural rise in tomato prices, stressing that the price reaching 15 pounds per kilo is considered within the normal range as a result of cultivation costs. He pointed out that farmers had previously neglected the crop due to low prices and an imbalance in cost with sales.
