A senior US official told Axios that the administration… US President Donald Trump Iran has communicated through multiple communication channels that it is open to holding a meeting to negotiate a potential agreement, at a time when the region is witnessing a remarkable US military escalation in the Gulf.
Negotiations between Iran and Washington
On the other hand, two regional sources revealed to the American website Axios that Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey are working to organize a possible meeting in Ankara later this week, which will include White House envoy Steve Witkoff, with a number of senior Iranian officials, as part of mediation efforts to open a negotiating path between the two parties.
An official from one of the participating countries stated: Things are moving and we are doing our best, noting that the three countries that played a role in reaching the ceasefire agreement in Gaza are seeking to prevent the outbreak of a regional war by pushing Washington and Tehran to the negotiating table.
White House officials confirmed that Trump has not made a final decision regarding launching a military strike against Iran, and is still open to a diplomatic solution, explaining that the president’s recent statements regarding the negotiations are not just a political maneuver, although it is not clear whether Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei will give the green light to reach an American-acceptable agreement.
The website revealed that these diplomatic moves coincide with orders issued by Trump to strengthen the American military presence in the region, which raises the importance of the ongoing efforts to avoid directing a military strike against Iran or the outbreak of a wide-ranging regional war.
