On Wednesday morning, the influx of Palestinians returning from Egypt to the Gaza Strip began, via the Rafah land crossing, and this coincides with the third day of the crossing’s operation on both sides.

Cairo News Channel revealed intensive preparations at the Egyptian Ministry of Health to receive infected people coming from the Gaza Strip, as part of the ongoing arrangements in conjunction with the continued operation of the crossing.

The channel reported that the concerned authorities continue to coordinate to facilitate transit movement and provide the necessary medical care for humanitarian cases and patients, as part of Egyptian efforts to support our Palestinian brothers and deal with the humanitarian repercussions of the situation in the Gaza Strip.

The emergency health plan includes equipping about 150 hospitals

In a related development, Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the official spokesman for the Ministry of Health and Population, announced that the level of maximum preparedness within the Egyptian health system had been raised, coinciding with the start of the actual operation of the Rafah crossing and the crossing of wounded and injured Palestinian brothers in the Gaza Strip to receive treatment in Egypt.

Abdel Ghaffar explained, during television statements, that the emergency health plan includes equipping about 150 hospitals nationwide, with the possibility of increasing the number according to developments in the situation, in addition to sending 300 fully equipped ambulances, of which about 60 cars operate within the border crossing, and the rest are distributed among the governorates within the emergency action plan.

He pointed out the readiness of nearly 12,000 doctors from various subspecialties, assisted by about 18,000 nursing staff, in addition to the formation of 30 specialized medical teams affiliated with the Central Department of Emergency and Urgent Care, to deal with critical and complex cases.

The Ministry of Health spokesman confirmed that North Sinai Governorate includes 5 hospitals ready as a first stage to receive the infected, where comprehensive medical examinations and analyzes are conducted, and in light of the medical evaluation, a decision is made to complete treatment within North Sinai hospitals or transfer the cases to more specialized hospitals and centers in other governorates.

Abdel Ghaffar stressed that the priority of receiving cases is subject only to the degree of seriousness and severity of the medical condition, pointing out that all cases arriving from the Gaza Strip are considered difficult and complex cases as a result of the destruction of the health infrastructure within the Strip and the passage of long periods without receiving appropriate medical care.
