Under the directives of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, Dr. Badr Abdel-Aty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, met yesterday, Thursday, December 11, 2025, with Angolan President João Lourenco, where Minister Abdel-Aty conveyed the greetings of President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi to President Lourenco, and delivered to him a written message from the President of the Republic, expressing Egypt’s deep appreciation for the fraternal relations that unite the two countries and the common keenness to continue developing bilateral relations.
Ambassador Tamim Khallaf, the official spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said that the Minister of Foreign Affairs congratulated President Lourenço on Angola’s ongoing successful presidency of the African Union during the year 2025, and on the great success achieved by Luanda in hosting the seventh African-European summit as one of the most important cooperation frameworks between the African continent and its international partners, reiterating Egypt’s commitment to continuing close cooperation and coordination with Angola regarding various regional and international issues. He also congratulated the Angolan side on the success of the Infrastructure Finance Summit hosted by Luanda in October 2025, stressing Egypt’s interest, under the presidency of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, of the NEPAD Steering Committee, in strengthening joint coordination to mobilize the necessary funding for continental infrastructure projects.
Minister Abdel-Aty also appreciated the great momentum witnessed by bilateral relations during the recent period, especially following the visit of President Lourenco to Egypt in April 2025, noting Egypt’s keenness to convene the joint committee this year to follow up on the various axes of cooperation and the outcomes of mutual visits, including the visit of the President of the Republic to Angola in 2023.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs affirmed Egypt’s interest in activating the memorandums of understanding signed in the fields of communications and information technology, housing and infrastructure, and mutual exemption from drug registration, in addition to what was agreed upon during the joint committee regarding enhancing cooperation in the fields of health and medicine in a way that supports Angola’s efforts to reach the third maturity level in accordance with World Health Organization standards. He also reaffirmed Egypt’s keenness to support Angolan development plans.
In the same context, Minister Abdel Aty highlighted the aspiration of Egyptian companies to enhance their investments in projects that will be implemented within the Lobito development corridor and other strategic corridors in Angola, pointing to the great experience of Egyptian companies in implementing giant infrastructure projects in several African countries. He also referred to the ongoing study to launch a coalition of Egyptian companies in the Lobito Corridor projects, which will contribute to supporting development and raising the efficiency of transportation and logistics networks.
The official spokesman added that with regard to regional cooperation, Minister Abdel Ati stressed the keenness to continue coordination with Angola for the success of its presidency of the African Union during this delicate stage that the continent is going through, and the two countries’ joint commitment to achieving peace, stability and sustainable development through African solutions to African problems. He also appreciated the role of President Lourenço as the pioneer of the file of peace and reconciliation in Africa, stressing the complementarity between this role and the role of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, the pioneer of the file of post-conflict reconstruction and development.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs praised the level of coordination between the two countries on various African Union issues, especially peace and security issues on the continent, whether with regard to the Horn of Africa, Sudan, eastern Congo, or the Sahel region, stressing the importance of strengthening and intensifying consultation between the two sides in a way that supports efforts to achieve security and stability in light of the internal developments and political transformations that some countries of the continent are witnessing.
Minister Abdel Aty concluded by emphasizing the constants of the Egyptian position in support of preserving the sovereignty of states and the unity of their national institutions, the priority of political solutions to crises, and the rejection of any external interference in the affairs of the continent, stressing Egypt’s rejection of any unilateral measures in the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea regions that may contribute to increasing tension or threatening regional security.
For his part, the Angolan President expressed his deep appreciation to Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, stressing his pride in the fraternal relations that bring the two countries together, appreciating the keenness to enhance joint cooperation and advance bilateral relations, and expressing his aspiration to continue working with Egypt to enhance the partnership between the two countries in various fields.
