Representative Dr. Tariq Saada, head of the Media Syndicate and an expert in digital media and artificial intelligence technologies, gave an extensive lecture at Helwan University entitled “Deep fakes and media disinformation in the era of artificial intelligence technologies,” at the invitation of Professor Dr. Sayed Kandil, the university’s president, and in the presence of students from Helwan, Helwan National, and Helwan Technological universities.
During the lecture, the head of the Media Syndicate provided a comprehensive review of the reality of digital media globally, explaining the extent of its growing influence, and how it has become the most widespread and influential means of shaping public opinion, especially among young people.
Verify the validity of the information
Dr. Saada stressed the importance of new generations having the skills to audit and verify information, warning against being led by misleading content or circulating publications without consulting their sources.
The head of the Media Syndicate explained that the verification methodology always begins with the official pages and statements of government agencies, institutions and ministries, then follows up on the statements of official spokesmen through licensed media channels, in addition to reviewing what is published in the local and international press. He stressed that direct contact with the concerned authority represents the last stage of documentation, after exhausting digital and official sources.
Saada pointed out that artificial intelligence – despite the capabilities it provides for collecting and analyzing data – does not replace the role of humans, who remain primarily responsible for verifying information and verifying facts. He stressed that the rapid technical development requires continuous training and skills development to ensure keeping pace with the requirements of modern media.
In the concluding part of the meeting, Professor Dr. Sayed Qandil moderated an open dialogue between the students and the head of the Media Syndicate, focusing on the role of youth in enhancing societal awareness and confronting misinformation campaigns. Dr. Tariq Saada answered all the students’ inquiries, announcing joint cooperation between the Media Syndicate and Helwan University in the fields of training in digital media and creating content that is compatible with modern standards.
The University President concluded the events by honoring Representative Dr. Tariq Saada, head of the Media Syndicate, and awarding him the Helwan University shield in appreciation of his distinguished contributions and continued support for university youth, stressing that the coming period will witness close cooperation between Helwan University and the Media Syndicate.
