Major General Dr. Hisham Abu Al-Nasr, Governor, received AssiutToday, Dr. Ahmed Fouad Hanno, Minister of Culture, at the governorate’s general office, on a visit aimed at following up on development and maintenance work in cultural facilities, and discussing prospects for enhancing the artistic and creative movement in the governorate, in addition to discussing the establishment of an opera house in Assiut to be a new beacon on the map of Egyptian and international arts.
Visit of the Minister of Culture to Assiut
The General Court lobby witnessed a distinguished reception for the Minister and the accompanying delegation, as the pioneers and youth of the governorate, as well as the scout and ranger teams, lined up in an honorary corridor, raising the flag of the Arab Republic of Egypt and presenting bouquets of roses to welcome the visit.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Alaa Abdel Salam, President of the Opera House, Dr. Mina Emad, Deputy Governor, Accountant Adly Abu Aqil, Secretary General of the Governorate, Khaled Abdel Raouf, Assistant Secretary General, Major General Ismail Hussein, Advisor to the Governor, Dr. Gamal Abdel Nasser, Director General of the Central Upper Egypt Cultural Region, and Khaled Khalil, Director General of the Assiut Culture Branch.
The Governor of Assiut welcomed the minister, stressing that cooperation with the Ministry of Culture represents a fundamental pillar for supporting creativity in Upper Egypt. He said, “We value the great efforts made by the Ministry in developing cultural palaces and houses and providing programs that raise awareness and discover young talents.” Culture is the foundation of human development, and Assiut throughout its history has been and continues to be a platform for thought and creativity.
The governor pointed out that establishing an opera house in Assiut will open broad horizons for young people to participate and learn, stressing that the project – once implemented – will be a shining sign in Upper Egypt and a platform for high-level performances that reflect the governorate’s cultural status.
Development of cultural facilities
Major General Hisham Abu Al-Nasr explained that the Ministry’s efforts in developing cultural facilities will contribute directly to serving the people of the governorate and enhancing cultural activities in centers and villages, stressing that the governorate will provide all means of support to overcome obstacles to cultural initiatives as an essential part of comprehensive development plans.
For his part, the Minister of Culture expressed his happiness with the visit to Assiut, and thanked the governor for the warm reception, stressing the continuation of joint cooperation to expand the circle of beneficiaries of cultural services, stressing that the Ministry is continuing to implement its artistic and creative plans in line with the state’s efforts to achieve sustainable development goals and implement the presidential initiative “A New Beginning for Human Building.”
During the meeting, the two sides discussed mechanisms for intensifying cultural events, programs for discovering and developing talent, and investing in cultural facilities in the governorate in an optimal way to serve the people of Assiut, which contributes to enhancing community awareness and consolidating the role of Upper Egypt as a major partner in the cultural and artistic movement in Egypt.
