Dr. Badr Abdel Aty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Egyptian Abroad Affairs, met with Hans Grundberg, Special Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General to Yemen, today, Tuesday, within the framework of consultation and coordination regarding developments in the situation in Yemen, and to support international efforts aimed at reaching a comprehensive and sustainable political settlement of the crisis.

The tense situation in Yemen

Ambassador Tamim Khallaf, the official spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said that Minister Abdel-Ati stressed during the meeting Egypt’s firm position in support of the unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Yemen, and the importance of preserving the national state institutions, in a way that preserves the capabilities of the brotherly Yemeni people and prevents the situation from sliding towards further escalation and instability.

Minister Abdel-Ati stressed the need to intensify efforts aimed at establishing the calm and reducing the escalation, and creating the appropriate climate for the resumption of the political process, on the basis of an inclusive Yemeni-Yemeni dialogue that leads to a comprehensive settlement that meets the aspirations of the Yemeni people for security, stability and development, and puts an end to their prolonged humanitarian suffering.

For his part, the UN envoy reviewed the latest developments in his efforts and contacts with the parties concerned, expressing his appreciation for the Egyptian role in supporting the truce, stressing his aspiration to continue coordination with Egypt as a central regional party in supporting security and stability in the region.
