The Egyptian Ambassador to New Zealand: The parliamentary elections are going smoothly
He pointed out that this is the fourth time that the doors of the embassy have been opened to voters, after the two rounds of Senate elections, and the first stage of the House of Representatives elections, which contributed to the accumulation of experience of the embassy members and their ability to deal with voters smoothly.
He added that things were going smoothly during the first day without any problems, pointing out that the Egyptian community in New Zealand numbered between 5,000 and 6,000 citizens.
He stressed that the members of the community have a high degree of awareness and culture, and that despite their presence in one of the farthest geographical points from Egypt, their emotional and sentimental connection to their homeland is very strong, continuing that they always follow the events in Egypt and do not delay in participating in everything related to their homeland.
George Azar pointed out that the size of the community in New Zealand is small compared to other countries, but coordination between it and the embassy continues well, as election dates and voting conditions have been repeatedly announced through the embassy’s website and community groups, and the importance of bringing a national ID card or a valid passport.
He explained that this communication is not limited to the electoral process only, but extends to the various activities organized by the embassy, as there is an active group of community members who actively participate in all activities.
He concluded by stressing that the National Elections Authority is the competent authority to announce the detailed numbers, while the embassy can only confirm the keenness of Egyptians in New Zealand to participate in all events of interest to Egypt despite the extreme geographical distance.
