Aswan Governorate has completed all arrangements for viewing the phenomenon of sun perpendicularity in the Abu Simbel temples.
Preparations to receive thousands of tourists have also been completed, which were carried out at the highest level in full coordination between the Directorate of Security and Governorate and the Ministries of Tourism, Antiquities and Civil Aviation to implement the same system and mechanism that is applied twice a year for this unique global event on October 22 and February 22 of each year.
Delegations, tourist groups and visitors were received this morning, Sunday, February 22nd, to witness the rare astronomical phenomenon in which the sun’s rays penetrate the temple hall for a distance of up to 60 meters to the Holy of Holies, in a scene that embodies the genius of the engineering and cultural miracle of the ancient Egyptians.

All capabilities have been harnessed to implement insurance plans and regulatory procedures, while providing specific gates and paths to facilitate the entry and exit of spectators, and to ensure the complete flow of movement in order to achieve the highest levels of organization and safety for visitors.
In a related context, and in view of the sanctity of the holy month of Ramadan, the Ministry of Culture decided to early organize the activities of the 13th Aswan International Festival for Culture and Arts, which is held annually on the sidelines of the Perpendicular to the Sun, and was held during the period from 4 to 9 of this February, with the participation of 14 Egyptian and foreign folk arts groups.
Its activities witnessed a wide public turnout, and the artistic performances of the participating teams were held at the Fawzi Fawzi Summer Theater on the Nile Corniche in the city of Aswan, in addition to a number of cultural sites in centers and cities, within the framework of the governorate and the Ministry of Culture’s keenness to spread the arts, enhance cultural exchange, and provide the opportunity for the largest number of citizens to follow the events.
The phenomenon of the sun’s perpendiculars will remain a global cultural and tourism event that reflects Egypt’s historical status and embodies its ability to organize major events efficiently and professionally.
