Mako, the eldest daughter of Japanese Crown Prince Fumihito and niece of Emperor Naruhito, gave up her royal title after her marriage to Kei Komuro in 2021, which sparked widespread controversy within Japan, especially since her husband is a commoner.
The couple moved to the United States after marriage, where they initially lived within the Hell’s Kitchen neighborhood in Manhattan, before deciding to move to a quieter home in Connecticut.
Kei Komuro is currently a lawyer specializing in international trade and national security, having passed the bar exam in 2022 after studying at Fordham University.
Mako, who studied art history, had previously participated in volunteer work at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, where she helped with work related to the Asian art collections.
The Japanese Imperial Family had previously confirmed that the couple would receive their first child in 2025, but was keen to keep the details of his private life away from the media.
