A video of a tourist crying in front of Tutankhamun’s mask in the Grand Egyptian Museum topped social networking sites, where the tourist appeared surprised and crying intensely when she saw the golden mask.

The first comment from the videographer of the crying tourist

How do you feel? This is the question that Mohamed Hamada, the English tour guide, asked the Australian tourist when she shed tears upon seeing Tutankhamun. He was anticipating her surprised reaction given her study of ancient Egyptian history.

Hamada says in exclusive statements to Cairo 24: I am an English tour guide, the founder of the Descendants of Egyptian Civilization Initiative, and an official ambassador for the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities. I have always known that the mask of Tutankhamun has awe and awe in all the hearts of students of Egyptian civilization, so I expected her reaction, especially since she studies Egyptian antiquities in her country, Australia.

She studies Egyptian archeology in Australia

Hammad confirmed that the video was filmed on Thursday, January 1, 2026, which was the tourist’s first visit to Egypt, commenting: The visit to the museum was her second visit after the pyramids, but she was in shock when she saw the pyramids for the first time and remained very much standing in front of them, unable to breathe, and she wanted to sit and contemplate the place more.

Regarding her reaction as soon as she saw the mask, Hamada explained: In fact, I was very much expecting a big reaction, because I had made the same video before with the artist Sameh Hussein, the actor, and his family, and it was admired by many people.

He added: I felt the importance of Tutankhamun’s treasures to her, especially since she studies Egyptian antiquities.

While filming his videos about tourism and antiquities in Egypt, Hamada aims – whether individually or with various state institutions, such as the Tourism Promotion Authority and other institutions, but I tried to take advantage of the nature of my work as a tour guide – to offer something different, and at the same time, when a foreign tourist in his country sees it, he has a different feeling that he must come and see the mask and the museum. This video can influence very many tourists and let them know that our history is truly amazing and great.
