The medical team at the Children’s Specialized Hospital in Al-Adaysat South succeeded LuxorBy saving the life of a child who arrived at the emergency department suffering from symptoms that seemed simple on the surface, but behind them was hiding a serious and rare medical diagnosis.
Accurate diagnosis in record time
The incident began with the child attending the hospital emergency room complaining of “dizziness” and a disturbance in balance, days after suffering from an upper respiratory tract infection.
The initial examination showed a slight disturbance in activity, but the vigilance of the medical team required that the child be detained immediately and a CT scan of the brain be performed.
In coordination with the neurologist, the doctors suspected that he had “acute necrotizing encephalitis.”
Race against time in intensive care
The child’s condition, consciousness, and movement deteriorated rapidly within hours, which required his immediate transfer to intensive care.
Magnetic resonance imaging confirmed the difficult diagnosis of this type of autoimmune inflammation, which is globally classified as the most aggressive. Complete recovery rates do not exceed 10%, while rates of death or permanent disability reach more than 50%.
A global treatment protocol and recovery journey
The medical team dealt with the case with high professionalism, as the child underwent intensive immunotherapy according to the latest international protocols, in parallel with physical therapy sessions and close follow-up.
The condition stabilized and the child was transferred to the inpatient department, where he showed an amazing response to treatment and his motor ability improved. He left the hospital safely to continue follow-up in the outpatient clinic.
