Today, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Republic, received Sergei Lavrov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, in the presence of Dr. Badr Abdel-Aty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Egyptian Abroad Affairs, and on the Russian side, Sergei Vershinin, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Georgy Borisenko, Ambassador of the Russian Federation in Cairo, Alexander Kinchak, Director of the Middle East and North Africa Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Mikhail Dzhirginia, Director of the Department in the Middle East Department. and North Africa at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The official spokesman for the Presidency of the Republic stated that the President began the meeting by requesting to convey his greetings to Russian President Vladimir Putin, expressing his appreciation for the course of strategic relations between Egypt and Russia, which are witnessing continuous growth in various political, economic and commercial fields, pointing out the importance of continuing to strengthen joint cooperation, especially with regard to the project to establish the Russian industrial zone in the Suez Canal Economic Zone, and the Dabaa nuclear power plant project, in addition to other strategic cooperation files between the two countries.

For his part, the Russian Foreign Minister conveyed President Putin’s greetings and appreciation to the president, expressing Russia’s aspiration to continue working with the Egyptian side to advance the strategic relations between the two countries to broader horizons, in addition to continuing to build on the understandings that were agreed upon between the two presidents to develop relations between the two sides during the visit made by the President to Russia in May 2025.

Ambassador Mohamed El-Shenawy, the official spokesman, indicated that the President appreciated the holding of the second ministerial conference of the Russia-Africa Partnership Forum, which is hosted by Egypt, stressing the importance of the conference to consider ways to deepen the partnership between African countries and the Russian Federation, including by enhancing economic and development cooperation to achieve the common interests of both parties, and in a way that also contributes to strengthening peace and stability on the African continent, and pushes towards the implementation of the 2063 Agenda.

In the same context, the Russian minister expressed his appreciation to Egypt for hosting the ministerial conference, noting his country’s aspiration to hold the third edition of the conference during the year 2026, adding that Russia also aspires to hold a summit of Russia and Arab countries during the next year.

The official spokesman also explained that the meeting addressed a number of regional and international issues of common interest, including the situations in the Gaza Strip, Sudan, and Libya, where the need to stop the war in Gaza, establish a ceasefire, and prevent escalation in the region, while preserving the sovereignty of states, the integrity of their territories, and the capabilities of their peoples, was emphasized. In this context, the Russian Foreign Minister expressed his country’s appreciation for the Egyptian role in supporting stability in the Middle East, valuing the existing political coordination and consultation between the two countries, and stressing the importance of intensifying this consultation on issues of common concern.

The official spokesman stated that the meeting also touched on developments in the Russian-Ukrainian crisis and the ongoing efforts to settle it, as the President affirmed Egypt’s support for all efforts aimed at ending the crisis through political solutions, stressing Egypt’s readiness to provide all necessary support to international efforts in this framework.
