Today, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi made a phone call with General Joseph Aoun, President of the Lebanese Republic.

The official spokesman for the Presidency of the Republic stated that the President congratulated President Aoun on the occasion of the eighty-second anniversary of Lebanon’s independence, stressing his pride in the growing momentum witnessed in relations between the two countries.

For his part, President Aoun expressed his thanks and appreciation to the President for congratulating him on Independence Day, and for his constant keenness to strengthen Egyptian-Lebanese relations in various fields, stressing the depth of the historical ties between the two peoples and the two countries, and Lebanon’s keenness on its distinguished relations with Egypt.

Ambassador Mohamed El-Shenawy, the official spokesman, added that the President reaffirmed Egypt’s firm position in support of respect for Lebanon’s sovereignty, the importance of implementing Security Council Resolution No. 1701, and Egypt’s support for the Lebanese government’s policy of confining weapons to the state.

For his part, President Aoun appreciated the support provided by Egypt to Lebanon, stressing Lebanon’s commitment to the decision to limit weapons to the state and its legitimate institutions.

He also expressed Lebanon’s aspiration for the international community to support the Lebanese army in particular, in light of the great national responsibilities it bears, appreciating in this context Egyptian support for the Lebanese army and security institutions.
