During the meeting, the delegation handed the Pope the Holy Light, which was sent through His Eminence Bishop Anthony, Bishop of Jerusalem, the See of Jerusalem and the Near East, to arrive in Egypt as part of an annual ritual linked to one of the most important occasions in the Christian calendar.
The Holy Light is considered one of the most prominent spiritual symbols in the Coptic Orthodox Church, as its appearance is linked to the celebrations of the glorious Resurrection Day and the Holy Saturday ritual in the Church of the Resurrection, and it is seen as a sign of faith with a deeply festive nature among believers.
This reception comes within the framework of the Coptic Church’s keenness to revive the religious rituals associated with the major holidays, and to enhance spiritual communication between Egypt and the Holy Land, reflecting the depth of the extended church history and its roots firmly established in the Coptic conscience.
