Officially… CAF announces harsh sanctions on Senegal due to the events of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final

The CAF Disciplinary Board imposed sanctions on the Senegalese Football Federation and some players and officials due to the events that occurred during the final of the Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025, which violated the CAF Disciplinary Code, as the CAF Disciplinary Board took the following decisions:

The sanctions imposed on Senegal were as follows:

  • Pape Thiaw, the coach of the Senegal national team, was suspended for 5 official matches in the Confederation of African Football (CAF) competitions for unsporting behavior that constitutes a violation of the principles of fair play and integrity in the Confederation of African Football (CAF)’s disciplinary code, and for bringing the game into disrepute. He was also fined $100,000.
  • Senegal national team player, Elimane Ndiaye, has been suspended for two (2) official matches by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for his unsporting behavior towards the referee.
  • Senegalese national team player, Ismaila Sarr, has been suspended for two (2) official matches by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for his unsporting behavior towards the referee.
  • Fined the Senegalese Football Federation $300,000 for misconduct by its fans, bringing the game into disrepute in violation of the Confederation of African Football’s Disciplinary Code principles of fair play and integrity.
  • Imposed a fine of $300,000 on the Senegalese Football Federation for misconduct of its players and coaching staff, which brought the game into disrepute in violation of the principles of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Code of Discipline relating to fair play, loyalty and integrity. This unsporting conduct brought the game into disrepute.
  • Imposing a fine of $15,000 on the Senegalese Football Federation for misconduct of its national team, as a result of five (5) of its players receiving warnings.
