NASA postponed the first manned flight to… the moon Within the Artemis program, due to weather fluctuations and temperatures expected to drop to near zero at the launch site in Florida, which raised concerns regarding the safety of the rocket and ground equipment, according to the New York Post.

NASA postpones the first manned mission to the moon due to cold weather and fluctuations in weather conditions

NASA was scheduled to conduct a crucial test to supply fuel to the mission’s rocket, which is a necessary test before launch, but the agency decided to cancel it late due to unsuitable weather conditions, and NASA set next Monday as a new date for conducting the test, provided that the weather improves and temperatures stabilize.

This postponement represents a challenge to the mission schedule, as the agency only has a limited window of time remaining during the month of February to launch the flight, not exceeding three days, before it is forced to postpone it until next March. The mission includes four astronauts, who are scheduled to orbit the moon before returning to Earth, in a step that paves the way for humans to return to the surface of the moon on later missions.

NASA stressed that safety remains a top priority, noting that missiles and spacecraft are greatly affected by low temperatures, which may expose the mission to unaccounted risks. The Artemis program is the cornerstone of the United States’ plan to explore the moon and beyond, including paving the way for future manned missions to Mars.
