Moroccan press reports stated that the local authorities in the city of Agadir declared a state of maximum alert, in anticipation of the weather fluctuations witnessed in the region, before the match between Egypt and Benin in the Championship. African Cup of Nations 2025.
The match between Egypt and Benin is scheduled to be held within the framework of the round of 16 matches of the 2025 African Cup of Nations, next Monday evening, at 6:00 Cairo time, and at 7:00 Saudi Arabia time, on the floor of the Adrar Stadium in the eastern city of Agadir in the Souss-Massa region in Morocco.
The Moroccan newspaper Le360 said that the state authorities in Agadir lifted the state of emergency, and held extensive meetings with the concerned authorities, on Friday, January 2, 2026, to take all necessary preventive measures to confront the expected weather disturbances, especially in light of expectations of strong rainfalls that may reach 120 mm in the Agadir Idaoutnan province.
The newspaper added that the regional authorities, under the direct supervision of the governor of the Souss-Massa region, decided to raise the level of vigilance and work to remove all obstacles and impurities stuck in the rainwater drainage channels, to avoid their blockage and the occurrence of possible floods, in addition to taking a package of measures after consulting with the various competent authorities.
Deploying trucks, ambulances and special equipment
The newspaper indicated that among the measures taken was a comprehensive mobilization of civil prevention services, through the deployment of trucks, ambulances, and special equipment for intervention in cases of natural disasters, in a number of regions, including Tikiouine, Dararka, Ourir, Tamraght, Taghazout, and Tamri in the direction of Essaouira.

The newspaper confirmed that the authorities, in coordination with merchant associations, issued a decision requiring the complete closure of the Souq Al-Ahad commercial complex on Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays, to avoid any potential damage as a result of the expected heavy rains.
The regional directorates of the Ministry of National Education in Agadir Idaoutnan, Chtouka Ait Baha, and Taroudant also decided to suspend studies, starting from the evening of Friday, January 2, 2026, until Monday, January 5, 2026.
