Today, Monday, the city of St. Catherine witnessed a tourism boom and a large demand from tourists to visit the city’s holy and historical places, despite the winter weather and low temperatures reaching 7 degrees.

Ibrahim Abdel Halim, Director General of Public Relations and Media in the City of St. Catherine, told Cairo 24 that the city of St. Catherine received, at dawn on Monday, a number of tourists from several different countries, to climb Mount Moses to watch the sunrise and enjoy the spiritual atmosphere, visit the colorful valleys and enjoy the beauty of nature.

1,200 tourists and visitors to St. Catherine

Abdel Halim confirmed that the city received 1,200 tourists and visitors today, including 262 Egyptians, and 938 tourists representing Russia, America, Australia, Sweden, Greece, Romania, Italy, Hungary, Singapore, Malaysia, Germany, and Argentina.

Abdel Halim explained that the total number of tourists who climbed Mount Moses reached 558, including 32 Egyptians, in order to watch the sunrise from the highest mountain peak, while 642 tourists and visitors, including 230 Egyptians, visited the Monastery of St. Catherine.

Abdel Halim pointed out that tourists flock to the city of St. Catherine every day at midnight to prepare to climb Mount Moses to watch the sunrise, and after finishing, they go to the monastery to visit the religious and historical sanctities and perform many prayers, and visit the church, library and museum of the monastery to view hundreds of rare manuscripts every day except Sunday, which is the day designated for the monastery’s leave to perform prayers for the monastery’s monks.

Low temperatures in St. Catherine help tourists climb Mount Moses

He revealed that the drop in temperatures in the city of St. Catherine at night to 7 degrees will increase the chances of increasing demand for climbing Mount Moses and enjoying sunrise trips, whether on foot or by riding camels.

He explained that the Governor of South Sinai confirmed on more than one occasion that the Great Transfiguration Project is the second gift to the Egyptian people after the Grand Egyptian Museum.
After finishing climbing Mount Moses and eating breakfast, tourists visit the colorful valleys and Bedouin camping areas and conduct marketing tours to buy medicinal herbs and Sinai and Bedouin crafts.
