Representative Ahmed Badawi, Chairman of the Communications Committee in the House of Representatives, said that a committee Communications Discussion of the draft law regulating and codifying the use of social networking sites for children was completed, as part of Parliament’s efforts in cooperation with the government to develop a legislative framework that protects young people from digital risks.

He added, in an intervention with the journalist Shadi Shash, presenter of the Extra Studio program, on the Extra News channel, that the meeting was attended by a number of ministers, including the Minister of Endowments and the Minister of Culture, and it lasted for more than three hours to discuss the details of the law and the mechanism for its implementation.

Ahmed Badawi pointed out that the draft law aims to protect children from the dangers of social media applications, especially in light of the fourth and fifth generation digital wars, while preserving their benefit from modern digital development.

He stated that the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority provided clarifications during the meeting about the implementation mechanism, reviewing international experiences, taking into account Egyptian circumstances without directly imitating any foreign law.

The head of the Communications Committee explained that the law will allow the provision of telephone lines designated for children, controlled by the guardian through a special code that prevents the child from accessing violent content or dangerous applications, including blocking VPN networks.

Ahmed Badawi stressed that these measures aim to ensure a safe and secure upbringing for children while maintaining the benefit of digital education and electronic platforms within schools.
