Chinese auto giant BYD is preparing to launch a new sub-brand called Lingwei, according to recent statements submitted to China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.
BYD launches a sub-brand to mitigate the negative impact on sales
These statements show a new Lingui brand logo, indicating BYD’s intention to differentiate these new models from its current lineup, and 4 models – Lingui e5, Lingui e7, Lingui e9 and Lingui M9 – have been submitted for approval.
The new Lingui brand appears to benefit from BYD’s established platforms, with several models based on existing BYD vehicles while adopting a new identity.
Lingwei e9 is based on BYD Han and features a familiar family design. It is 4995 mm long, 1940 mm wide and 1495 mm high, with a 2920 mm wheelbase, while the E9 is available with two electric motor options, with maximum power of 135 kW (181 hp) and 150 kW (201 hp) respectively.
The Lingwei E7 model features a symmetrical family design, with dimensions of 4780 mm (length), 1900 mm (width), and 1515 mm (height), with a wheelbase of 2820 mm. This model will be available with two electric motor options, 100 kW (134 hp) and 130 kW.
The Linghui E5, based on the BYD Ken Plus electric car, is 4805 mm long, 1837 mm wide and 1530 mm high, with a wheelbase of 2718 mm. It is equipped with a single electric motor that generates a maximum power of 100 kW (134 hp).
The Linghui M9, the largest of the first models, is based on the BYD
Unlike Linghui’s other all-electric models, the M9 features a plug-in hybrid drive system, combining a 1.5-liter engine with an electric motor that generates a maximum power of 200 kW (268 hp).
